Dimensional Inspection of Stainless Steel Pipes
Dimensional inspection is the most fundamental quality control step before steel pipes leave the factory, ensuring they meet customer orders and relevant standards. We ensure that the dimensions of each steel pipe are within standard tolerances.
This prevents pipes with non-compliant dimensions from being welded or joined, leading to construction delays and additional costs.
Outside Diameter (OD): Measured using a vernier caliper, micrometer, or gage. For large-diameter steel pipes, a gage is typically used with a formula to calculate the OD, or a laser measuring instrument is used to ensure accuracy.
Wall Thickness (WT): Measured using an ultrasonic thickness gauge or micrometer. Ultrasonic thickness gauges allow for quick and accurate measurements without damaging the pipe, while micrometers are used for precise inspection of pipe ends.
Length: Measured using a tape measure or laser distance meter. For single pipes, the length must be within the tolerances specified by the standard.
Ends: Check the bevel angle and flatness of the end faces. A bevel angle gauge and square are typically used to ensure that the ends meet welding requirements.

Manufacturing Process
ASTM A312 covers two primary manufacturing processes:
Seamless steel : Made from billets through piercing and cold drawing/cold rolling, the pipe body has no welds and is suitable for applications requiring high pressure, high temperature, or high strength.
Welded : Made from coiled steel plate or strip and then welded, it is relatively low-cost and suitable for applications with less stringent pressure requirements.
Applications
Chemical Industry: Heat exchangers, chemical storage tanks, and piping systems
Oil and Gas: Pipelines transporting chloride-containing or corrosive media
Marine Engineering: Desalination plants, offshore platforms
Food and Pharmaceuticals: Pharmaceutical equipment, food processing piping
Energy: High-temperature boiler tubes, heat exchangers
