ASTM A335 P22 Pipe Scope and Specifications

A335 P22 is a high-temperature ferritic steel with 2.25% Cr and 1% Mo, as defined in the ASTM A335 standard for alloy seamless pipes. It has good high-temperature, corrosion, and pressure resistance. It also has good processing and welding properties and high thermal strength. When the temperature is less than or equal to 580°C, its creep rupture strength and allowable stress even exceed those of 9Cr – Mo steel. It is primarily used in the manufacturing of high-temperature and high-pressure pipelines and equipment. It is widely applied in industries such as chemical, petroleum, natural gas, thermal power generation, and nuclear power.

ASTM A335 Standard Scope

The ASTM A335 standard is applicable to seamless ferritic alloy steel pipes used in high-temperature service. It specifies the nominal and minimum wall thicknesses, and requires that the pipes can adapt to forming operations such as bending and flanging, as well as fusion welding. It covers various grades of low and medium alloy ferritic steels with a chromium content not exceeding 10%. There are optional supplementary requirements (S1 to S8). In the standard, the values in the International System of Units (SI) and inch-pound units are respectively regarded as the standards and need to be used independently. When “M” is not specified, inch-pound units shall be adopted. This standard is formulated in accordance with the relevant principles of the Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee of the World Trade Organization.

Comparison of P22 and T22 Alloy Seamless Steel Pipe

P22 is specified by ASTM SA335 for seamless alloy-steel pipes used in high-temperature environments, while T22 follows ASTM SA213, which is for seamless alloy-steel tubes used in boilers and heat exchangers. P22 alloy seamless steel pipe that we produce is used for connecting pipes, while T22 seamless steel pipe is used for boiler heating surfaces in contact with flue gases. Both are equivalent to the German grade 10CrMo910. Both P22 and T22 have similar chemical compositions: C (0.05~0.15), Si (≤0.50), Mn (0.30~0.60), P (≤0.025), S (≤0.025), Cr (1.90~2.60), and Mo (0.87~1.13). We specialize in manufacturing a wide range of high-quality alloy seamless steel pipes, including grades such as P5, P11, P12, P22, P91, and more. In addition, we produce various pipe fittings, including flanges, elbows, bends, and tees. Our products are fully customizable in both material composition and size, ensuring they meet the specific and diverse requirements of our customers. Feel free to contact us.

ASTM A335 P22 Pipe Mechanical Tests Specified

Transverse or Longitudinal Tension Test, Hardness Test, and Flattening or Bend Test. For material heat treated in a batch-type furnace, tests shall be made on 5% of the pipe from each treated lot. For small lots, at least one pipe shall be tested. For material heat treated by the continuous process, tests shall be made on a sufficient number of pipe to constitute 5% of the lot, but in no case less than 2 pipe.

ASTM A335 P22 Pipe Hydrostatic Test

Each length of pipe shall be subjected to the hydrostatic test or nondestructive examination, as required by the relevant specifications.
