Carbon steel pipe cap is also known as head cap which is used to weld or install on the male thread of end of pipes for blocking the pipelines. It has same function as plug and blind flange.

Steel pipelines includes pipes, fittings, flanges, gaskets, valves, bolts and nuts. It is important to select proper piping material to ensure system safety and durability at appropriate cost.

We can produce pipe fittings & flanges in customized size as per customer required. Usually stock the dimensions in accordance with standards of ASME B16.9, B16.5, B16.11 & BS3799. Our goods are good for waterproof the connections to avoid leakage, and laso can work high pressure and temperature situation.

Main Functions

Closing and Sealing: The primary function is to permanently or temporarily close the open end of a pipeline to ensure the integrity and tightness of the piping system. This is crucial for pipelines conveying liquid or gaseous media, and can effectively prevent leakage.

Safety: Closing off the end of a pipe prevents foreign objects from entering the interior of the pipe and protects equipment and fluids from contamination. In some cases, it can also prevent accidental contact with hazardous media in the pipeline.

Pressure Testing: When a piping system is being tested for water or air pressure, the cap is used to enclose the piping so that the inside of the system can withstand the test pressure.

Future Expansion: Some piping systems are designed to allow for future expansion connections, which are closed with a cap and then removed and connected to the new piping when needed.

Carbon Steel Buttwelding Cap

Carbon steel butt weld pipe caps are made from steel plate. It connects steel pipe by welding and the diameter size of pipe cap is larger than forged steel cap.

There are many grades such as ：

ASTM A234 WPB / WPC

WPL6 / 3 / 9

A860 WPHY 42 / 46 / 52 / 60 / 65 /70.

Usually we use coating of primer and galvaning on buttweld cap against rust. The primer could be normal, FBE, EPOXY RESIN, while the galvaning is hot dip type.

Ordering

When you are purchasing forged steel fittings, you need to know some details, such as size, pressure rating, material, type and end connection. There is no need to specify seamless/welded construction, because they are forged. Seamless and welded type are applied to butt weld fittings.

Process

Forged Fittings Manufacturing Process

From the name we can know that is Forging. This process of forging, heats carbon steel that is placed between dies, which molds the heated piece of steel into its desired shape. This shape is then bored and machined into a forged steel fitting.

Material

Forged pipe fittings are typically available in two materials: carbon steel (ASTM A105 material spec), and stainless steel SS316 (ASTM A182 material spec). The surface of carbon steel A105 forged pipe fittings may be further reinforced against corrosion through galvanizing. This is an optional add-on which customers may include at an additional cost.

Marking & Packing

To make sure there is no damage during transit, we pack them into cartons and wooden cases. All carbon steel forged fittings are marked with logo, size, grade and heat No. We also can do customized marking as customer’s request.

Carbon steel pipe reducer is one type of buttweld fittings in material grades ASTM A234 WPB, A860 WPHY 65 and A420 WPL6 for low temperature service. The other butt weld fittings also can be delivered in a short time, such as elbow, tee, cross and cap. What is the difference? Pipe reducer has one connection method that BW only. Not like them, also have socket weld and threaded types.

Types of Carbon Steel Pipe Reducer

Carbon Steel Concentric Reducer

What is Buttweld Pipe Reducer?

Steel pipe reducer is used in piping system to change the diameter of pipe. ANSI / ASME B16.9 Butt weld pipe reducer is an pipe connector or pipe joint that reduces the size of pipe from larger diameter to smaller. The reduction in size is mainly equal to the average smaller and larger pipe diameter. It comes in two types that Concentric Reducer and Eccentric Reducer. The Concentric Pipe Reducer is used in vertical piping system. The Eccentric Pipe Reducer is used in horizontal piping system.

Type: Seamless Elbow and Weld Elbow

Manufacturing standards and materials

The manufacturing of carbon steel elbows usually follows international and domestic standards to ensure product quality and interchangeability. The most common standards are:

ASME B16.9: This is the most important factory-made butt-weld pipe fittings standard, which specifies the dimensions, tolerances, markings, etc. of elbows.

ASTM A234: Specifies the material specifications for carbon steel and alloy steel seamless and welded pipe fittings for medium and high temperature services. Among them, the most common carbon steel grade is WPB (Welded Pipe Bending). ASTM A234 WPB means that the elbow is made of carbon steel, formed by processes such as welding or pushing, suitable for medium and high temperature services, and has good mechanical properties and weldability.

Carbon Steel Chemical Properties

The common used carbon steel grades are ASTM A234 WPB and A420 WPL6 For low temperature service.

Classification by Angle:

90 degree elbow: Most commonly used, used to achieve a right-angle turn in the pipe.

45 degree elbow: Used to achieve a 45 degree turn in the pipe.

180 degree elbow: Also called a U-shaped elbow or return bend, used to achieve a 180 degree direction change in the pipe, commonly found in heat exchangers and coils.

Other angle elbows: There are also non-standard angle elbows such as 22.5 degrees and 60 degrees, which can be customized according to specific design requirements.

Long Radius Elbow

Fittings that change direction in a piping system are called elbows which available in 90 degree and 45 degree long radius elbow. Both of them has the center line at 1.5 x NPS from elbow end.

Long Radius vs Short Radius

Short Radius Elbow

Short radius elbow almost same as above long radius, the difference is center line to end is 1 x NPS and available in 90 degree only.

Surface of Carbon Steel Elbow

Painting

Firstly, we do the blasting on the body of elbow, to clean the dirt things. Then paint the primer on the inner and outer side. The mainly purpose is against rust during the shipment.

PE Coating

Clean the steel pipe elbow body and wrap the polyethylene tape on it with adhesive. Usually the thickness of coating is 2mm. They are used in the underground pipeline system.

Galvanizing

Take carbon steel buttweld fittings into a bath of molten zinc. That would get more zinc and make the price is high.

We surfaced carbon steel forged fittings with electrogalvanizing because it is pretty and low cost.

Application Areas

Oil and gas industry: Pipelines for oil and gas transportation, refineries and gas processing plants.

Chemical and petrochemical industry: piping systems for the transport of non-corrosive or slightly corrosive chemicals.

Power industry: water, steam and fuel piping in thermal power plants.

Building and civil engineering: Used in a large number of daily piping projects such as water supply and drainage, fire protection systems, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC).

Marine and Offshore: Piping for ship interiors and offshore installations.

How to Calculate Weight of Concentric Reducer

Calculation Formula: 0.02466 × S ×[ (D+d)/2-S] × H / 1000

S: Wall thickness in mm.

D: Outside diameter of the larger end in mm.

d: Outside diameter of the small end in mm.

H: End to end dimension in mm.

What is the meaning of WPB in ASTM A234?

W=Wrought (Weldable)

P=Related To P Number of Alloy Material

B= Refer to Minimum Yield of Material

ASTM A234 specification covers wrought carbon steel and alloy steel fittings of seamless and welded construction. The material for fittings shall consist of killed steel, forgings, bars, plates, seamless or fusion-welded tubular products with filler metal added.
