Our QA/QC person inspect BSPT couplings according to ASME B16.11.

Visual and touch check to ensure the states of surface and marking.

Measure and record the value of outside diameter, wall thickness, height and thread length.

Test thread of ASTM A105 Threaded Fittings with Go-No Go Gauge.

Difference from Full Coupling

Full Coupling: Both ends have the same connection (threaded or socket welded) and are primarily used to connect two straight sections of piping, or to extend piping.

Half Coupling: Only one end has a connection, the other end is flat and is used to weld to a main line or equipment wall to create a branch or connection point.

What is the difference between a coupling and a union?

The main difference between a coupling and a union lies in their connection and disconnection features.

A coupling is designed to permanently connect two pipes together. Once installed, it is not meant to be removed easily, as it usually involves threading or welding. Couplings are ideal for applications where the pipe connection does not need to be taken apart frequently.

A union, on the other hand, is made for easy assembly and disassembly. It consists of three parts – two end pieces and a central nut. This design allows the pipes to be disconnected without rotating them, which makes unions perfect for systems that require maintenance, inspection, or replacement of components.

In summary, couplings create a permanent joint, while unions allow for quick disconnection and reassembly.

Full Coupling VS Half Coupling

Full Coupling

Connection Methods

Threaded Full Coupling: Both ends are internally threaded and are used to connect two pipes that are externally threaded.

Socket Weld Full Coupling: Both ends are socketed for insertion into two pipes, which are then joined by a fillet weld.

Advantages

Easy to install: Quick installation without welding for threaded connections.

Versatility: Can be used in a wide range of pipe connection scenarios.

Simple maintenance: Threaded connections are easy to remove and replace.

Half Coupling

Connections
Threaded Half Coupling: The threaded end is used for connecting branch lines, instruments or accessories, the smooth end is butt-welded to the main line or vessel wall.

Socket Weld Half Coupling: The socketed end is used to socket weld a branch line, the smooth end is butt-welded to the main line or vessel wall.

Advantages

No need to disconnect the main line: Branches can be easily added without interrupting the fluid flow in the main line.

Saves space: Half-joints take up less space than, for example, the use of tees.

Lower cost: For simple branch connections, it is often more economical than using tees or openers with flanges.

Good sealing: Welded connections provide a reliable seal and are suitable for high pressure systems.

Class 3000 Pipe Fittings

Standard

Class 3000 LB pipe fittings are conformed to specification of ASME B16.11, BS3799, MSS SP 75, MSS SP 83, MSS SP 95. There are steel pipe coupling, plug, cap, bushing, nipple, elbow, tee and cross.

Package

We marked all Alloy Steel Forged Fittings with Grade, Lot No, Size, Standard and Pressure. The workers will sleeve ASTM A182 F11 socket weld full couplings 3000 LB into plastic bag individually, put them in cartons and wooden cases, finally bundled wooden cases with nylon rope.

Inspection

Visual the surface of socket weld coupling body. Such as dents, die marks, porosity, undercuts.

Measure dimensions. Such as diameter, wall thickness, and dimensions of the socket.

Check the marking of branch outlet fittings. Such as size, material code, grade, pressure, heat no.

There are many types for steel pipe coupling, such as socket weld & threaded coupling, full & half coupling, straight and reducing coupling. All of them are available in Class 3000lb and 6000lb.

6000LB pipe fittings manufacturer supplies full and half coupling in socket weld and threaded types, they are attracted customers by good price and quality. We also deliver pipe fittings in short time since stock normal sizes product in our warehouse.

What are they used? To join pipes and fittings, valves together at ambient and high temperature / pressure systems.

Pipe couplings offer speed and efficiency when joining pipes and fittings.

Socket welding provides a strong joint in small diameter pipe systems.

Types of Steel Pipe Coupling

According to the connection methods, we can divided them into socket weld and threaded coupling.

According to the shape, we can call them as straight coupling and reducing coupling.

There are also full and half coupling. Both of them have same dimensions except the length. We can see below difference data sheet.
