<p>ASTM A358 TP316 Stainless Steel EFW Pipe is an Electro-Fusion-Welded Pipe (Electro-Fusion-Welded Pipe) manufactured from austenitic <a href="https://www.zcpipefittings.com/how-to-choose-a-stainless-steel.html">stainless steel </a>grade 316, which is used in a wide range of applications for pressure piping systems in high-temperature, highly corrosive environments.</p>



<p>ASTM A358 is a standard specification covering electrofusion-welded austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel piping for high-temperature service and general applications. <p>ASTM A358 TP316&nbsp;Stainless Steel&nbsp;EFW Pipe&nbsp;specification&nbsp;covers electric-fusion-welded austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel pipe suitable for corrosive or high-temperature service, or both, or for general applications.</p>



<p>The dimensionless designator NPS has been substituted in this standard for such traditional terms as “nominal diameter,” “size,” and “nominal size.”</p>



<p>This specification covers the grades of alloy and stainless steel listed in&nbsp;Table 1. The selection of the proper grade and requirements for heat treatment shall be at the discretion of the purchaser, dependent on the service conditions to be encountered.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-five-classes-of-pipe-are-covered-as-follows">Five classes of pipe are covered as follows:</h3>



<p><strong><br></strong>ASTM A358 Class 1 &#8211;&nbsp;Pipe shall be double welded by processes employing filler metal in all passes and shall be completely radiographed.<br>ASTM A358 Class 2 &#8211;&nbsp;Pipe shall be double welded by processes employing filler metal in all passes. No radiography is required.<br>ASTM A358 Class 3 &#8211;&nbsp;Pipe shall be single welded by processes employing filler metal in all passes and shall be completely radiographed.<br>ASTM A358 Class 4 &#8211;&nbsp;Same as Class 3 except that the weld pass exposed to the inside pipe surface may be made without the addition of filler metal.<br>ASTM A358 Class 5 &#8211;&nbsp;Pipe shall be double welded by processes employing filler metal in all passes and shall be spot radiographed.</p>

Generally speaking, ERW pipes are used in low and medium pressure fluid transportation systems, such as water supply and natural gas pipelines, due to their high productivity and low cost. On the other hand, EFW pipes are mostly used in high-pressure, high-temperature or corrosive environments. Such as chemical, nuclear and boiler systems, where the quality of the welds is higher, and they are suitable for the manufacture of large-diameter, thick-walled pipes. Therefore, which is better depends on the specific needs of the application. If weld strength and corrosion resistance are important, EFW is better. If economy and medium strength are important, ERW is more suitable.</p>

<p>On June 3, 2025, we received an inquiry request from a new customer in China for a batch of ASTM A312 TP316L <a href="https://www.zcpipefittings.com/stainless-steel-pipe.html">stainless steel pipe</a>. The customer has strict requirements on the specifications, tolerances, surface quality and third-party testing and certification of the steel pipes, and focuses on the corrosion resistance and delivery cycle of the products.</p>



<p><a href="https://www.zzfittings.com/">ZIZI</a> is a company specializing in the production and processing of pipes and fittings. The pipes and pipe fittings we produce are mainly used in chemical, petroleum, natural gas, water conservancy, electric power, marine engineering and other fields. The products mainly include seamless pipes, welded pipes, butt-welded pipe fittings, high-pressure forged pipe fittings and flanges of various sizes. <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-dimensional-inspection">Dimensional Inspection</h2>



<p>Purpose: To ensure that the geometric dimensions of the steel pipe meet the design and standard tolerances.</p>



<p>Outer Diameter (OD): Measure with a caliper or an OD gauge to check whether it is within the tolerance range specified in the standard.</p>



<p>Wall Thickness (WT): Measure with a thickness gauge to ensure that the wall thickness at each point meets the standard wall thickness tolerance (ASTM A312 has positive and negative deviation requirements for wall thickness, usually the negative deviation of the nominal wall thickness does not exceed 12.5%).</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-chemical-composition-analysis">Chemical Composition Analysis</h2>



<p>Purpose: To ensure that the chemical composition of the material meets the requirements of the F316L grade in the ASTM A312 standard. The key elements include carbon (C), manganese (Mn), phosphorus (P), sulfur (S), silicon (Si), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni) and molybdenum (Mo). In particular, the low carbon content (maximum 0.035%) and at least 2.0% molybdenum content of F316L are critical to corrosion resistance.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-key-features">Key Features</h2>



<p><strong>Excellent Corrosion Resistance: </strong>About 2.0% to 3.0% molybdenum is added to ASTM A312 TP316L stainless steel&nbsp;pipe, which significantly enhances its resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments (such as seawater, salt water). This makes it have better overall corrosion resistance than common 304 stainless steel.</p>



<p><strong>Good Mechanical Properties:</strong>&nbsp;Minimum tensile strength is usually not less than 485 MPa (70 ksi). Minimum yield strength is usually not less than 170 MPa (25 ksi).</p>



<p><strong>Ductility:</strong>&nbsp;Good ductility, easy to form and process.</p>



<p><strong>High Temperature Performance:</strong>&nbsp;Able to maintain good strength and corrosion resistance at higher temperatures up to about 870°C (1598°F).</p>
