The weight of stainless steel pipes is a very important parameter in the import and export business. In import and export business, freight is usually calculated based on the weight or volume of the goods, and accurately calculating the weight facilitates the determination of transportation costs. Types of Stainless Steel Pipe

Formula for Calculating Stainless Steel Pipes Weight

The weight of stainless steel pipes mainly depends on their outer diameter, wall thickness, length, and the density of stainless steel. Although the density of stainless steel varies depending on the material, it is usually between 7.70-8.00 grams per cubic centimeter.

The following is the basic formula for calculating the weight of stainless steel pipes:

Weight=(OD – T) x T x 0.02491 x L

OD=Outer Diameter(mm)

T=Wall Thickness(mm)

L=Length(m)

In this formula, the unit of outer diameter and wall thickness is usually millimeters, while the unit of length is usually meters . 0.02491 is a constant used to convert the calculation result into weight per meter (kg/m).

When calculating weight, ensure that all dimensions are converted to the same unit and the correct stainless steel density is selected. In this way, the weight can be calculated using the above formula.

For example, the weight of SS304 stainless steel pipe with an outer diameter of 8 inches, wall thickness of SCH40, and a length of 6 meters can be calculated using this formula.

Firstly, convert inches to millimeter sizes, 8 inches=219.1mm; SCH40=8.18mm. Then, using the formula, it can be calculated that:

Weight=(219.1mm-8.18mm) x 8.18mm x 0.02491 x 6m=257.88KG.
