ASTM A105 is representative material for carbon steel blind flange which are available in Raised Face ( RF ), Ring Type Joint ( RTJ ) and Flat Face ( FF）
Blind flange is a plate that attaches to a pipe end to block off pipeline and provides easy access for cleaning, inspection and modification. They have the same function with pipe plugs and caps, but it is detachable.
It is connected to a flange or flange fittings by bolting with a gasket between them to provide a seal. And should be placed where isolation is needed, such as the nozzle of a device, before or after a shut-off valve or between two flanges.
Gaskets have many types, such as Industrial Rubber Sheet, Asbestos Rubber Sheet, PTFE Gasket, Spiral Wound Gasket and so on. Its selection is influenced by many factors, but attention should be paid to the fluid type, temperature and pressure.
What is Raised Face?
Raised face is almost the most common sealing type among all kind of flanges and is easy to identify. This type flange has a higher gasket surface than bolting circle face. BLRF Flange can increase the pressure containment capability of the joint.
The height of raised face are fixed in most manufacture standards except ASME standard. In this standard, the raised face height will increase along with the pressure.
The flange pressure rating are: 150 LB, 300 LB , 600 LB , 900 LB , 1500 LB , and 2500 LB .

- Dimension of BLRF
Measure the values of flange Outside Diameter, Raised Face diameter, Thickness, Bolt Hole Numbers and Diameter, Bolt Circle Diameter and Weight. Guaranteed the values are within tolerance.
- Material Grades of Flanges
Detect the Chemical Composition and Mechanical Properties, and compared to ASTM A105 standard, ensure the material is qualified and its performance are not damaged.
- Surface of Blind Flanges
Visual check and hand touch, ensure they are smooth.
- Marking
Mark it as ” 2″1500# BLRF ASTM A105N ASME B16.5 16084″. The mark should be clear and correct.
