ASTM A234 WPB is a common grade for 90 degree long radius elbow, which is one of the highly demanded. They available in a large size and thickness range. They have a good performance and suffices most industrial pipeline needs.

ASTM A234 WPB
ASTM A234: This is a material standard specification for wrought carbon and alloy steel pipe fittings for use in moderate- and high-temperature pressure-containing piping.
WPB: This is a specific grade within the ASTM A234 standard.
The “W” stands for “Wrought,” meaning the fitting is manufactured by processes such as forging, stamping, extrusion, and bending, rather than casting.
The “P” stands for “Pressure,” indicating that the fitting is suitable for use in pressure piping systems.
The “B” stands for “Grade B,” similar to Grade B in piping standards such as ASTM A106 or API 5L, and refers to its minimum yield strength.

ASME B16.9 ASTM A234 WPB 90 Degree LR SMLS Elbow
The radius of curvature (R) is 1.5 times the nominal pipe size (NPS) or outside diameter (D). (R = 1.5D). This provides a smoother turn, reducing friction, turbulence, and pressure drop. It’s generally preferred when space allows and flow efficiency is critical.
ASME B16.9 ASTM A234 WPB 90 Degree SR SMLS Elbow
The radius of curvature (R) is equal to the nominal pipe size (NPS) or outside diameter (D). (R = 1.0D). This results in a sharper turn, increasing turbulence and pressure drop, but it is more compact and suitable for tight spaces where a smaller bend is necessary.

ASTM A234 WPB Steel Pipe Fittings Standard Specification
Scope
This specification covers wrought carbon steel and alloy steel fittings of seamless and welded construction covered by the latest revision of ASME B16.9, B16.11, MSS-SP-79, MSS-SP-83, MSS-SP-95, and MSS-SP-97. These fittings are for use in pressure piping and in pressure vessel fabrication for service at moderate and elevated temperatures. Fittings differing from these ASME and MSS standards shall be furnished in accordance with Supplementary Requirement S58 of Specification A960/A960M.
Heat Treatment
Heat Treatment Procedures—Fittings, after forming at an elevated temperature, shall be cooled to a temperature below the critical range under suitable conditions to prevent injurious defects caused by too rapid cooling, but in no case more rapidly than the cooling rate in still air. Heat treatment temperatures specified are metal (part) temperatures.
Materials and Manufacturing
The raw material for making ASTM A234 fittings hall be fully killed, consisting of forgings, bars, plates, sheet, and seamless or fusion-welded pipe products with filler metal added and shall conform to the chemical requirements of Table 1. Unless specified for carbon steel plates or sheet, the steel may be made to either coarse grain or fine grain practice. Which ASTM A234 WP9 shall be made to fine grain practice.
Forgings or forming operations could be perfomred by hammering, pressing, piercing, upseting, rolling, extruding, bending, fusion welding, machining, or by a combination of two or more above operations. Which the point of manufacturing is not to produce injurious imperfections in the fittings.

How Many Types of Steel Pipe Elbow?
According to the shape, there are straight and reducing elbow.
Depending on the angle, there are normally 45 degree, 90 degree and 180 degree elbow.
As based on radius, there are long radius ( 1.5D) and short radius ( 1D) elbow.
For connection, they can divided into socket weld elbow, butt weld elbow and threaded elbow.

We marked all Carbon Steel Buttweld Fittings with Name, Grade, Heat No, Size, Standard and Schedule Thickness. After done of blasting, painting and marking of 90 Degree ASTM A234 WPB Elbow, our workers wrapped them with plastic foam and packed them into wooden cases or pallets.
Clear labels are tagged on the outside of the package for easy identification of the quantity and product I.D. great care is taken during operation and transportation.
Inspection of Butt Weld Elbow Fitting

Measure and record of outside diameter, wall thickness, center to end and center to center.
